Setting stable water parameters for Betta in the first 7 days
Quick checklist to help a new Betta tank avoid water shock: temperature, pH, biological filtration, and water change schedule.
Setting stable water parameters for Betta in the first 7 days
First 7-day goals
- Maintain stable temperature at 26-28°C.
- Keep pH within the range of 6.8-7.4.
- Avoid overfeeding to prevent NH3/NH4 spikes.
Recommended procedure
- Days 1-2: run gentle filtration, increase oxygen, and let the fish acclimate slowly.
- Days 3-4: check pH, NH3/NH4, NO2; change 15-20% of water if signs of cloudiness appear.
- Days 5-7: add beneficial bacteria at low dosage, maintain regular water change schedule.
Signs of a stable water system
- Fish swims actively, does not surface excessively.
- Does not flare gills continuously, color is even.
- Water surface is clean, without thick film.
